Like other candidates of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), the candidates interested in the job in Railways will have to take the primary examination first. After the examination, they can choose IRMS under five specializations. Of these five specializations, four under engineering will be engineering, civil, mechanical, telecom and electrical and one will be non-technical.
Non-technical will have accounting, personnel and traffic sector appointments. Yadav said, its detailed outline will be prepared, but for the moment it is such that the candidates will take the primary examination and then choose their choice. They will also be given the option to appear in the IRMS exam.

The chairman of the Railway Board said, "We are going to send a demand letter clarifying our recruitment under five specializations." Four of them are of engineering and one is non-engineering. People from the Faculty of Arts can get appointment in non-engineering ones. He said, only the officers of the Indian Railway Service with 35 years of experience will be appointed as Chairman / CEO. He also said that the decision to merge the services has been taken so that the officers put the railways before their services.
